Due to the nature and compacted size of the firepit, it is likely to scorch the ground and grass underneath. For this reason, it is It is recommended that the firepit is placed on a fireproof or sacrificial surface such as a large log or paving slab to prevent unwanted damage.

The cooking grate is made from carbon steel, which needs to be seasoned before cooking on to make it non-stick and to prevent corrosion. Heat over a fire or in the oven set to maximum temperature and apply a light vegetable oil (not olive) to the surface and allow to smoke off. After this is done a few times, the surface will be seasoned to a black colour, much the same as you would do with cast iron cookware.

We recommend keeping cooking grates undercover when not in use to avoid rust.
